Today we visited our place for the first time since March. We arrived with curious eyes and wondered what might have changed in our absence. We walked down the desire path before us and immediately noticed the long grass, blooming flowers, and many pinecones. As we walked further to the sitting area we normally gather at we came upon a sign that said “Please refrain from using this ceremonial space for recreational activities”, we were surprised to read this. Together we decided to step away from this area and eat our lunch elsewhere to pay respect to the note. Stepping away we passed by the “squishy tree” we had inquired about in the winter. Fingers reached to touch the bark to feel the texture our eyes wondered about, is this tree still squishy even in the Summer?- Vanessa asked. The tree was dry and yet still squishy, we noticed a unique sound from the tree which also made our ears recognize the dryness. With one last look before we left our place, a caterpillar appeared wiggly up the base of the tree, does the caterpillar notice the dryness? Where is it going? How is this caterpillar connecting to land?
We are wondering how to add new elements to our inquiries, which has led us to thinking about connecting to land through art.
